Harassment in the correctional environment is specifically defined as unwelcome conduct based on various personal traits that creates a hostile environment for individuals. This can include actions, comments, or behaviors that target someone's race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or other personal characteristics, making them feel threatened or uncomfortable within that setting.

Understanding this definition is crucial in maintaining a safe and respectful atmosphere in correctional facilities. The presence of such harassment can disrupt the order of the institution and negatively impact both inmate well-being and staff morale. Therefore, recognizing and addressing any form of unwelcome conduct is integral to fostering a harmonious environment where respect is upheld among all individuals involved.
